Flight Centre Travel Butler Monica gives us her pick of memorable sights and experiences Down Under

What is a FC Travel Butler? We are a concierge service available to all customers who have booked a tailor-made holiday from our Journeys and Escapes range. We offer destination advice and recommendations for tours and restaurants. We also help organise special requests.

How did you become a FC Travel Butler? In store I really enjoyed speaking to customers and using my experience to offer recommendations. When the position became available within the Travel Butler team, I knew this was something that I would be passionate about and was fortunate to get the job. Between us we have visited 149 countries, so we are sure to be able to help, no matter where you’re going. I am an Aussie specialist.

How did you become an expert on that region? From living there for a year. While there, I was both a tourist and a local. As a tourist I wanted to see and do it all: visit Sydney Opera House, travel the east coast and go snorkelling on the Great Barrier Reef, which is similar to many of our customers. Since starting at Flight Centre, I have also completed the Australia specialist programme. We receive regular training to keep us up to date on the latest trips and events, such as the Commonwealth Games, being hosted by the Gold Coast this month.

What was the most surprising thing you had to book for a client? Recently I helped arrange a full-day proposal. They woke with a private beach breakfast laid out, ready for him to pop the question. This was followed by a day at the spa, enjoying wonderful treatments. That evening they had a candlelit private dinner with only the ocean waves to disturb them!
