Make no mistake, the Remainer elite–in cahoots with Brussels– is fighting a guerilla war against Brexit using any weapon it can

-

WITH contemptuous disregard for the democratic will of the people, the increasingly preposterous – and treacherous – House of Lords launched a flagrant bid yesterday to sabotage Brexit.

Following a truly bizarre debate, in which one superannuated Liberal Democrat peer appeared to liken the Prime Minister to Adolf Hitler, they passed an amendment which would rob British negotiators of their trump card – the option of walking away rather than signing up to a bad deal.

It was fitting that the architect of this insane move was already a figure of ridicule. Viscount Hailsham’s only previous claim to fame was that he charged for cleaning the moat at his manor house on Parliamentary expenses.

The whole absurd event was a timely reminder that a comprehensive clear-out of this unelected club of cronies and hasbeens is long overdue.

The vote isn’t binding of course but gives succour to those in the Commons – including a cabal of Tory rebels – who want to reverse the referendum vote.

An amendment has already been tabled to the Trade Bill which seeks to keep Britain in the customs union – potentially killing off any chance of being able to negotiate our own trade deals and keeping us tied to the European Court.

If that were to succeed and yesterday’s Lords vote were repeated in the Commons, we would be heading for the worst of all worlds – remaining in thrall to the EU but without any power to influence policy.

Make no mistake, the Remainer elite – in cahoots with Brussels – is fighting a guerilla war against Brexit and will use any weapon at its disposal.

The Prime Minister has repeatedly said that staying in the customs union would be Brexit in name only. She must face down this assault on democracy and accept no shabby compromise.

And as for the Tory rebels, they must now decide whether they really want to risk opening the door to a catastrophic Marxist government.
