Should Donald Trump’s visit to Britain be welcomed or condemned?

-

DOES Corbynista Owen Jones think he’s being clever by calling for demonstrations against the democratically elected Donald Trump, one of our closest allies, when the U.S. President visits Britain in July (Mail)? Does he want a drop in the number of American tourists? Did Mr Jones’s grandparents object to American troops coming here to help us win the war? RICHARD PHILLIPS, London e4. I THOUGHT we lived in a democracy where people have the right to protest and demonstrate against unpleasant foreign politicians who have been invited here. GARTH GROOMBRIDGE,

Southampton. DONALD TRUMP has only himself to blame for the animosity with which he is regarded. But those determined to disrupt his visit might consider that previous incumbents of the White House acclaimed as great Presidents at the time

were also far from perfect. Trump has not started illegal wars or ruined his country’s economy. Why do some people kowtow to our enemies while alienating our friends? The world may be grateful one day that The Donald was President.

ALAN SHARPE, Melton Mowbray, Leics. WHOM the Americans choose as President is their business. There have been some duds, but they have always been respected when visiting the UK. As for those bent on demonstrating against Mr Trump, don’t they have jobs to go to?

Y. KING, hythe, Kent. WOULD someone tell protesters that some of us would like to see Mr Trump visit this country. We think he is doing a good job of putting America first and wish our leaders would do the same. V. HARRIS, wokingham, Berks. I THOUGHT it was an offence to incite people to hatred and violence. JAMES ROBERT-POULAIN, Bexhill-on-sea, e. sussex. WHERE was the protesting mob when the Chinese President visited London?

Ron Barnes, King’s Lynn, norfolk. THE u.S. President should be celebrated as our strongest partner in keeping the world’s peace. If the Marxist rent-a-mob is mobilised, every effort should be made to arrest them and the mindless trolls who pull the strings behind the scenes.

FRANK MCMANUS, Leeds. THE suggestion that people line the streets with their backs turned for President Trump’s visit is childish, impolite and disgraceful. Yes, it would show disrespect to Mr Trump, but more importantly it would show disrespect to the Queen. Like him or not, he is the elected U.S. President and is coming to the UK at the invitation of our Government, with the blessing of Her Majesty. ROBERT J. EVANS, Birmingham.
