28 years for university worker who killed boss
A UNIVERSITY worker was jailed for at least 28 years yesterday for stabbing his boss to death when she rejected his romantic advances.
David Browning, 52, became obsessed with Jill Howell, 46, a payroll manager at the University of Brighton. His boss tried to help him after he revealed he was suffering depression following the death of his father. But Browning became obsessed and attacked her after she had invited him to dinner. As she lay dying from 15 stab wounds, Browning scrawled ‘bully’ across her forehead in marker pen.
He was jailed for life at Hove Crown Court with a stipulation he serve at least 28 years after being found guilty of murder. Judge Christine Laing said he had been driven to kill by a ‘cocktail of desire, jealousy, frustration and anger’.
