Homes to repay £2m fees
A CARE home group has agreed to pay over £2million to residents who were forced to hand over fees before they had secured a place.
Sunrise Senior Living claimed the fees were imposed to maintain its facilities. But the Competition and Markets Authority said it was ‘unclear’ how the money had been used. The compensation payments, which will average £3,000, will be paid to people who spent less than two years in a Sunrise home.
The fees were not refunded to anyone who lived in a home for more than 30 days.
Sunrise said: ‘We are voluntarily embarking on this reimbursement programme.’
