The councillor living 400 miles from voters
A LOCAL councillor is facing pressure to step down from the role – after moving 400 miles away from his constituents.
Donald Adey represents the small village of Trumpington on both Cambridge City Council and the county council.
But three months ago he moved with his husband to Cupar in Fife – a seven-hour drive from his voters.
Mr Adey, who resigned from the Lib Dems and now stands as an independent, insists he is able to tackle local issues ‘by using the internet, phone, Skype and such things’.
The 66-year-old receives annual allowances for the roles totalling almost £14,500.
However a joint statement from the Lib Dem leaders of the city and county councils said: ‘We hope that councillor Adey thinks again and stands down but that is a matter for him.’
