Giving chilling examples of girls being hoodwinked into carrying out live-streamed sex acts on themselves, the Internet Watch Foundation rightly describes the rise in online abuse as ‘terrifying’.

So yes, it’s a scandal that Facebook, Twitter and the other web giants have failed to stamp out this grotesque exploitation. But parents also have a duty to know what their children are doing online.
