SPRINT HERO CAMPBELL LUCKY TO BE ALIVE AFTER BRAIN BLEED

- RIATH AL-SAMARRAI

FORMER Olympic champion Darren Campbell needed to be resuscitated and is ‘relieved to be alive’ after suffering a serious brain hemorrhage. It emerged last night that the 44-year-old was taken to hospital last Tuesday after a seizure at home. The father of three, who won 4x100m relay gold at the 2004 Olympics, has endured further seizures in hospital and for a time needed a ventilator to breathe. ‘I nearly died,’ he told the BBC. ‘It’s only when I see the fear in my kids’ eyes that you realise. When they first told me I was on a ventilator, I didn’t believe them. I’ve got other people filling in blanks. The doctors have said if I wasn’t so fit, I wouldn’t be here.’
