Alexander gambles on Salford

-

GRAHAM ALEXANDER believes he has taken a ‘left-field move’ after being appointed manager of Salford City. The former Fleetwood and Scunthorpe boss takes over from Anthony Johnson and Bernard Morley and has been challenged by part-owner Gary Neville to gain promotion to the Football League at the first attempt next season. Alexander, who has never managed in non-League, took the job after meeting Neville. ‘It came out of the blue,’ the 46-year-old ex-Burnley and Preston defender said. ‘It wasn’t something I saw taking forward but I thought it was polite to hear them out. ‘It’s a risk but we’ve got the tools here to be successful.’
