TOSS MAY BE SCRAPPED IN 2019 ASHES

- By PAUL NEWMAN Cricket Correspondent

AustrAliA may be given the option of bowling or batting first in every Ashes test next summer under radical new proposals being considered by the world governing body. the international Cricket Council will discuss scrapping the toss at every test when they meet next month and could bring the unprecedented move in for the start of the World test Championship next year. Every test since the inaugural match in 1877 has begun with the toss of a coin. But more and more series are being dominated by home sides and this proposal is seen as a way of negating home advantage. if the move is adopted, the 2019 Ashes will be the first test series when the visiting side will have the option of bowling or batting first to try to stop the home side manipulating the pitch conditions to best suit their bowlers. wlers.
