Labour MP’s email address gaffe

-

A LABOUR MP sent out dozens of private email addresses to her whole constituency mailing list.

Marsha de Cordova’s office sent an email to her constituents in Battersea, south-west London in an attempt to comply with new ‘GDPR’ data protection rules.

She sent a ‘GDPR consent form’ to constituents via email – but did not hide the email addresses of recipients, the Guido Fawkes website reported.

Instead of putting her constituents’ addresses in the ‘BCC’ (blind copy) section of the email, the office put them in the normal address bar.

It meant all recipients were able to see the email addresses of dozens of other people in the area.

The MP’s GDPR form, by which constituents can give permission to others to handle casework on their behalf, also urged them to give extra personal information. It said: ‘They often require... your date of birth, national insurance number and any reference numbers.’
