Cottage freedom!

-

WITH half term already upon us and June just days away, summer has arrived in all its splendour.

The warmer weather is a reminder to get a move on if we want to nab a cottage break in these precious months when the sun is most likely to shine.

Slip off to the glittering coastline or into expansive green countryside to recharge batteries and rediscover Britain in all its gorgeous greatness.

With your own characterful base to return to, every day can be an adventure, whether exploring stately homes, strolling amid bright flowers on coastal paths or sampling tasty food in welcoming hostelries.

And the best thing about a cottage holiday is that you have total freedom to follow your own schedule, with more privacy than in a hotel and, quite possibly, big savings per person, too.

A hot tub is always a plus. And with National Barbecue Week starting on Monday, why not search out a sizzling property ideal for an al fresco gathering?

A good tip is to zoom in on the location on Google Street View so you can check how close you’ll be to the beach, restaurants and local shops.

And do give interior shots a very thorough inspection. Choose a spruced-up cottage or swish lodge now and you’ll have a summer of fun, freedom and discovery to look forward to.

THE South-West is divine holiday territory, calling us out to play each summer with its great mix of seaside coves, historic houses and gardens and perfect pub lunches.

What’s more, this year’s Blue Flag beaches have just been announced and the South-West has the most, with 26 named for their clean bathing water.

Double-coasted Devon’s haul includes Blackpool Sands and beaches at Dawlish Warren, Oddicombe and Westward Ho!.

You’ll find plenty of cute properties nearby, from thatched cottages to swish lodges.
