Eton pupils THANK staff for taking their phones
THE headmaster of Eton College has revealed he is confiscating mobile phones from younger boys at night to ease the ‘pressures of social media’.
The elite school is asking all firstyears to hand in electronic devices before bedtime. They can get them back in the morning.
Speaking yesterday at the Girls’ Day School Trust conference in London, Eton head teacher Simon Henderson said: ‘Our Year 9 pupils have to hand their electronic devices in overnight ... We thought there was going to be an outrage among the boys but actually they really welcomed it.’ He added that the boys said it improved their sleep.
Year 9 pupils, aged 13 to 14, are the youngest at the £ 40,000- a- year school in Berkshire.
Mr Henderson is now considering rolling out the policy to Year 10 too.
