The truth is that diesel cars CAN be clean

Daily Mail - - News -

YOUR recent article on how toxic fumes from just one diesel car can cost the country £16,000 did not mention some up-to-date facts (Mail). I drive a diesel that meets the Euro 6 emissions regulations and it features the following advanced technology:

An additive to eliminate NOX gases (oxides of nitrogen);

A filter to remove particulates (tiny soot and metal particles) contained in exhaust fumes;

Fuel consumption of up to 62 miles per gallon during normal use, thereby reducing the CO2 emissions to a level far below the equivalent petrol-engined vehicle. The modern diesel engine is by far the most advanced and efficient unit available and is still being improved by manufacturers. Admittedly, my car is not electric nor a hybrid — but those vehicles aren’t without their environmental problems, either. What we should be promoting is the replacement of the old oil-burners with the latest advanced technology! STEVE SALISBURY. C.ENG., MIMechE,
