IT WOULD be a monstrous mistake to let graduates become police detectives after just three months’ training (Mail).
For starters, their knowledge and experience comes from university — and not the university of life.
Their awareness of the local villains would be nil, their knowledge of the area in which they served would be nil and their dexterity in interviewing suspects would be nil.
If the police want to fill the rank of detective, might I suggest an increase in pay and, above all, an appreciation by management for their demanding roles.
