Commons deputy speaker Dame Rosie Winterton became a Labour MP in 1997 and served as a minister in 2008, later becoming opposition chief whip. She was caught up in the expenses scandal after claiming £ ,690 for ‘sound-proofing’ a wall and redecorating.
