-

THE DAILY MAIL offers readers a unique opportunity to re-establish contact with long-lost relatives and friends. Each week, MONICA PORTER features the story of someone trying to find a missing loved one, as well as a tale of people reunited. This column is produced in conjunction with the voluntary tracing service, Searching For A Memory, run by Gill and John Whitley.

ELIZABETH Cunninghambrown, nee beth Dix, is searching for her ‘ set’ of fellow trainee nurses from St Peter’s hospital in Chertsey, Surrey, in the mid-Sixties.

‘i would love to meet up again with as many of these ladies as possible,’ says Elizabeth from Stockbridge, hampshire.

‘We were a terrific group and throughout our time training together we spent many a happy hour organising parties, going out and, after night duty, drinking coffee and smoking in our cubby hole bedroom. and working hard, of course.

‘i have only kept in touch with two of the girls, Maggie Wright, nee lintill, and Jenny Crawford, nee harris.

‘it would be so lovely to be back in contact with the others so that we could get together to reminisce about old times and catch up on each other’s lives.’ MORE than a year ago, Gary turner from Kidderminster, Worcs, sent out a plea to be reunited with his old shipmates, nicknamed the Clan.

‘i trained to be a ship’s steward as a 17-year- old in 1963,’ says Gary. ‘Serving on the P&O Orient passenger liners SS Oronsay, SS Orsova and SS arcadia, i started as a bell boy and worked my way up to First Class waiter and then First Class bedroom steward.

‘My photo shows me enjoying the sun with the Clan in July 1968 at Palma Nova, Majorca, the last port of call before Southampton. after

my time on the ships, i spent 35 years in the wine trade.’

We reunited Gary with a couple of the Clan, ian balls and terry Morris. Now we can report on another hoped for reunion.

‘One of the lads mentioned was terry Morris, from Canvey island, Essex,’ emailed alan hardy.

‘i grew up and spent my schooldays with terry and remember his family well. i am a 74- year- old retired architect and would love to renew our friendship.’
