Eeh Bah Gum. As if the Hansard scribes did not have enough problems reporting debates in the Commons, the Scarboroug­h MP Robert Goodwill wants them to have Yorkshire dialect lessons.

In a speech, he referred to GCHQ’s base near the seaside resort and the work undertaken by spies, and mentioned that ‘many locals still refer to it as “t’wireless station” ’.

He was disappoint­ed that it was transcribe­d as ‘wireless station’ by Hansard reporters.

north Yorkshire-born Mr Goodwill said: ‘They obviously need more Yorkshire dialect training.’

Doubtless, they’ll be reet chuffed about that.
