Eeh Bah Gum. As if the Hansard scribes did not have enough problems reporting debates in the Commons, the Scarborough MP Robert Goodwill wants them to have Yorkshire dialect lessons.
In a speech, he referred to GCHQ’s base near the seaside resort and the work undertaken by spies, and mentioned that ‘many locals still refer to it as “t’wireless station” ’.
He was disappointed that it was transcribed as ‘wireless station’ by Hansard reporters.
north Yorkshire-born Mr Goodwill said: ‘They obviously need more Yorkshire dialect training.’
Doubtless, they’ll be reet chuffed about that.
