Can I stop my hair going green in the pool?

-

FOr those with blonde or highlighted hair, the horror of holiday locks turning a nasty shade of green can become a reality after just a few days of splashing around in the pool.

This occurs when blonde or bleached hair absorbs copper algaecides, which are used in swimming pools to prevent algae growth. To avoid the problem, trichologist Zoe Passam recommends wetting the hair with clean water before going in the pool, to make it less porous.

‘Maintaining good condition with hair masks can also help to prevent it,’ she says. Try combing the water-resistant Philip Kingsley Swimcap Cream (right, £17, philipkingsley.co.uk) through damp hair for extra protection.
