PARIS after World War I was full of people glad to be alive. It was, for many, a boisterous peace, fuelled by booze, drugs and bohemian antics. Surrealism, a movement that sought to enjoy bizarre juxtapositions, was just the thing for this lot. For IN MONTPARNASSE (RADIO 4, 9.45AM (FM), 12.30AM) Tracy Ann Oberman (pictured) narrates a week-long account of the birth of surrealism.

PROF. QUANDERHORN is a mad scientist in this spoof sci-fi drama. He and a team of misfits work away in their secret lab on THE QUANDERHORN XPERIMENTATIONS (RADIO 4, 11.30AM), trying to save the world — even if they destroy it in the process.

THERE’S a real scholarly charm to this quiz, which has university students pitting their wits against a

team of their professors. It’s a good deal more lighthearted than University Challenge, with plenty of non-academic questions. Subjects cover a wide

range, from pop to physics. THE 3RD DEGREE (RADIO 4, 3PM) is recorded in a different university each week, starting at Newcastle; Steve Punt is quizmaster.

n BRITAIN’S favourite radio comedy quiz I’M SORRY I HAVEN’T A CLUE, (RADIO

4, 6.30PM) returns with a new series, as deadpan chairman Jack Dee gets Barry Cryer, Tim BrookeTaylor and other regulars wrapped in good, daft fun.
