Remainer called woman racist because she had a Brexit bag
A BREXIT supporter says she was branded ‘a stupid racist’ by an ex-Labour councillor who spotted her pro-Leave bag.
Lucy Harris, founder of the group Leavers for London, claims she was humiliated on a Tube train after City lawyer Todd Foreman saw her ‘The EU is not my Bag’ tote.
The confrontation occurred after Mr Foreman allegedly told her: ‘I don’t like your bag.’ When she replied: ‘That’s OK, you don’t have to’ she says he responded: ‘You’re either racist or thick. I don’t know which.’ Mr Foreman then allegedly added: ‘Your bag is disgusting, you’re taking away my EU citizenship. You sided with Nigel Farage – you’re a racist.’ Miss Harris, 27, reported him to the British Transport Police and posted a photograph of him on Twitter. Mr Foreman, Labour’s candidate against Jacob Rees-Mogg at the 2015 general election, later replied to her online. He tweeted: ‘You seemed quite happy to discuss Brexit with me on the Tube. I would have stopped if you had asked me to.’
After being elected as a councillor in Kensington and Chelsea in 2010, Kansas-born Mr Foreman defected to anti-Brexit party Advance.
Last night Miss Harris said: ‘Leave voters have assumptions and aggression directed to them on a regular basis. I pity people who are closed-minded and promote bigotry of any kind.’
