THE ORIGIN OF MAN An intellectual, so it’s said, Will beat himself around the head, With problems of the universe. He puts his brain into reverse To find out how life first began, To know the origin of man. Did we evolve from ape or fish? The answer an eternal wish, And so in circles on he goes, So many tried but no one knows. I pose a question, does it matter To prove the former or the latter? Why not enjoy life to the full? The future’s bright; the past is dull. Though interesting to contemplate, We shouldn’t dwell on things of late. You’d have to live a million years, So old and lonely with no peers, To know the answer no one can; To know the origin of man. Martin Jordan, Bootle, Merseyside.
