£5m bonus if England win it, half as much as Belgium!

- SAMI MOKBEL reports from Repino

ENGLAND’S players will split a pot of £5million if they win the World Cup — but that’s only half as much as Belgium! The nations go head to head tomorrow in a game that determines who finishes top of Group G, but England’s players head into the clash knowing they will earn significantly less than their opponents if they lift the trophy in Moscow next month. The £5m for Gareth Southgate’s squad works out at £217,000 per man. However, Belgium’s stars can net £400,000 each for World Cup glory, a fund of £9.2m. England’s successful qualification for the last 16 triggered a £1m

kitty to be shared among the 23-man squad. England’s players would have received nothing for failing to reach the knockout stages. Gareth Southgate (right) will net a £1.5m bonus if England triumph in Russia, while Belgium boss Roberto Martinez will earn £1m. The winners of the tournament receive £28m, the runners-up £21m, third place £18m and fourth £16m. Brazil, it is understood, will earn £750,000 per man for winning the World Cup, Germany’s players are on £350,000 per man. England’s World Cup-winning team of 1966 received £1,000 each. Meanwhile, FA chiefs are taking special measures to ensure players and staff have every comfort before World Cup fixtures. A party is sent to every venue and hotel before each game to make sure everything is ready for their arrival. They have taken such steps before but it has taken on a greater importance in Russia due to concerns about security and the standard of hotels. A party has already gone to Kaliningrad where England play Belgium tomorrow night.
