EPHEMERAL art can be washed away with the tide, melted by the sun or scattered by the winds. It is fragile and will be destroyed by time; it has to be witnessed in a moment rather than displayed in an art gallery. Louise Morris presents PURSUIT OF BEAUTY: DRAWING ON WATER (RADIO 4, 11.30AM), looking at the growing interest in transitory creations.

MYSTERIOUS figures come under scrutiny in the comedy discussion show THE REST IS HISTORY (RADIO 4, 6.30PM). Jack Straw (the leader of the Peasants’ Revolt, not the Labour politician) is on host Frank Skinner’s list, and is something of an enigma. There are many references to his involvement in the uprising that swept through England in 1381, but it’s possible he never

existed. Chris Addison and Alun Cochrane look at some sketchy details and unreliable evidence about this supposed English revolutionary.

DAN SMYERS and Shay Mooney (pictured) are a couple of Nashville-based dudes signed to Warner Bros. They have released three albums — Where It All Began, Obsessed and their latest, Dan + Shay, which is how they are better-known. Their music has also featured in the TV series Nashville. The duo will be on tonight’s BOB HARRIS COUNTRY (RADIO 2, 8PM) for some 21st-century country music.
