forMer Carillion graduate trainee luke Kay sensed that the collapsed construction company’s business model was unsustainable.

‘Contracts didn’t make financial sense and i started to get a bad feeling,’ he says.

So he started his own business, and is now an ActionCoach business coaching franchisee in liverpool. But at 28, coaching older business owners at first had credibility issues.

‘ActionCoach trained me to tackle objections — including ones over my age,’ he says.

‘With 3,500 strategies and tactics to help grow firms, ActionCoach franchisees don’t need 30 years of experience.

‘i could be a grandson of some clients, but as one told me, “if you’re good enough, you’re old enough”.

‘The best moment was when a former entrepreneur of the year winner said he’d had his best business year since working with me.’

ian Christelow, ActionCoach UK co-founder, says: ‘Your age shouldn’t matter — a great franchise should have a solid system and a supportive team to help you make a success.’

An ActionCoach franchise costs from £21,000.

running a home care company at 27, Almas Adam also faced credibility issues.

Almas, the loughton, essex, franchisee with right At home, says: ‘i am as old as clients’ grandchildren, and our care staff are about the same, but the right at home franchise has been a huge help.’

So much so, Almas is a finalist in the Young franchisee of the Year award. A right at home franchise costs from £31,995.
