Schools can’t find physics teachers
THIRTY-EIGHT per cent of physics teachers do not have a degree in the subject as schools battle a recruitment crisis, figures have revealed.
A third of geography teachers and a quarter of history and chemistry tutors have no degree in their areas, the Department for Education statistics show.
Geoff Barton, of the Association of School and College Leaders, said: ‘Parents will rightly want their children taught by teachers who are specialists in their subjects.’
A DfE spokesman said: ‘Teacher recruitment will always be challenging in a strong economy with record numbers of jobs.’
