Season two is built around the rivalry of its two most charismatic performers — serious actress Ruth (Mad Men’s Alison Brie) and fallen TV soap queen Debbie (Nurse Jackie’s Betty Gilpin) — and it hits just the right mix of funny and serious from the start.
