We’re making the most of our shower time

-

MORE than 60 per cent of us bathe or shower at least once a day, with Wales topping the clean league. And we will typically spend seven or eight minutes in the shower.

But there’s often more going on than just washing, with 16 per cent of UK adults shaving in the shower, 13 pc listening to music, 10 pc singing and 7 pc brushing their teeth.

Some even check their phones, watch TV or enjoy a drink, according to a recent Mira/YouGov survey.

Meanwhile the infamous shower vs. bath debate rumbles on, with 64 pc of UK adults preferring showers and 23pc choosing baths, while 11pc have no preference.

Younger people take the most time in the shower, while those aged 55 to 64 spend an average 5 minutes 46 seconds showering.

It is one of the most invigorating ways to get going in the morning or wind down after a long day.

In fact, 40pc say they shower for leisure reasons, enjoying the relaxation and escape from reality. It’s a routine we can enjoy for many years to come, with a bit of planning.

Making the bathroom safer earlier rather than later means you can do the changes in your own time, rather than having to splash out on big alterations later in life.

An easy access shower can look very stylish — and as you grow older you won’t have to worry about climbing in and out of a bath or more awkward shower. So you can continue to wash with confidence.

Most offer the option of a folding seat, while some have integrated seating. Other great safety factors include a grab bar, slip-resistant flooring and thermostatic controls.

What’s more, a shower can often be fitted in a day. And you don’t necessarily have to replace the entire bathroom to have one fitted. Now that’s worth singing about!
