BIG MATCH RATINGS

- JAMIE REDKNAPP’S

ENGLAND (3-1-4-2)

JORDAN PICKFORD HIS sensational penalty save ended 22 years without a shootout victory. He also pulled off a stunning save to deny Mateus Uribe’s strike. KYLE WALKER WHEN Kyle keeps it simple, he is as good as any defender in the tournament. When he starts taking liberties on the ball, he comes unstuck almost every time. JOHN STONES AN aggressive, commanding display from the Manchester City centre half. Radamel Falcao was a thorn in England’s side but Stones kept him at distance. Assured in possession. HARRY MAGUIRE HAS had a fine tournament and brought the ball out well. He could have done a little better with Colombia’s late corner but take nothing away from Mina. JORDAN HENDERSON LIVELY, got around the pitch well and was superb in holding midfield. He should have been kept in that role for the whole game rather than pushing him further up the pitch. KIERAN TRIPPIER GOT forward well but tended to panic at some of his set pieces. Caught in two minds trying to defend the Colombian goal but held his nerve superbly in the shootout. JESSE LINGARD PLAYING for England seems to bring out the best in him. Gareth Southgate takes his game to another level. Once again an action-packed performance in midfield. DELE ALLI DID not look fit following his injury. It was intense in that midfield battle and he did not look like he enjoyed the frantic pace of the game. ASHLEY YOUNG HIS set-piece deliveries were not of the highest quality. Colombia deliberately targeted him and he was dispossessed too often. RAHEEM STERLING HE gets into fantastic positions but until he learns to strike the ball properly, it is always going to hold him back. Too often he slaps at the ball when he gets in a position to shoot. HARRY KANE HAD a great battle against Tottenham team-mate Davinson Sanchez — and scored a wonderful penalty under pressure to put England in front. Led the line superbly. GARETH SOUTHGATE DESERVES immense credit after England ended their penalty hoodoo — but it was not a perfect night. His substitutions were too negative and put England on the back foot.
