Diving into fatherhood ... Tom Daley cradles his newborn son Robbie in LA
WHEN it comes to being a new father, it can’t hurt to have the nerve of an Olympic athlete.
And Tom Daley certainly looked confident as he settled into the role with his husband Dustin Lance Black on Tuesday.
The two became fathers to Robbie Ray Black-Daley, who was born via a surrogate, last Wednesday and were spotted taking him on a day out in LA this week.
The 24-year-old British Olympic diver stopped off at a bakery with his film producer husband, 44, and cradled his son before taking him for a stroll in a red pram.
The bronze medallist named Robbie after his late father Robert Daley, who died from cancer the year before he competed in the 2012 London Olympics.
Sharing a picture of the newborn’s feet on Instagram, Daley wrote: ‘Welcome to the world our precious little Robbie Ray BlackDaley. The most magical moment of my life.
‘The amount of love and joy you have brought into our life is immeasurable. Our precious son.’
Daley’s younger brother Will told the Sunday Telegraph: ‘His name, obviously named after dad, is a nice way to remember him. It does mean a lot and his legacy continues really in his name. Hopefully he grows up just like him.’
Daley’s mother Debbie, meanwhile, has joined him in LA to help share parenting duties. Earlier this year, Daley, who married Lance Black last year at Bovey Castle in Devon, revealed they don’t know which one of them is Robbie’s biological father because they ‘fertilised half the eggs each’. He also said they knew nothing about the egg donor.
