Giant damned by own staff
SEVERAL former Facebook employees have spoken openly about the dangers of the social media platform previously.
Co-founder Sean Parker said last year that the social network actively aimed for people to become addicted, adding: ‘God only knows what it’s doing to our children’s brains.’
He said: ‘The inventors, creators … understood this consciously. And we did it anyway.’
Justin Rosenstein, the engineer who helped Leah Pearlman create the ‘like’ button in 2007, has warned of Facebook’s ‘negative consequences’. He said last year that the ‘like’ gives users ‘bright dings of pseudo-pleasure’ that can easily backfire and have ‘unintended’ repercussions.
