Moral fibre
I AM full of admiration for the people of Michaelston-y-Fedw near Newport who installed their own broadband (Mail). I live in Bournville and BT has not installed fibre optic cables. The best broadband speed I can get is 11 Mbps, which is not much use for streaming 4k video offered, ironically, by BT Sport, when at least 23 Mbps is required.
BT has said there are no imminent plans to upgrade the cables and its suggestion was to organise a community project.
MICHAEL PARKER, Birmingham. AFTEr BT/ Openreach failed, supplying broadband speeds of only 1.5 Mbps, the village of MichaelstonyFedw took matters into their own hands.
That is a lot faster than Talktalk provides for me. I’m contracted for a guaranteed minimum of 0.9 Mbps, which it rarely achieves. Smug BT/ Openreach has a monopoly of the copper-based telecoms network, and it’s high time Ofcom gave it a time limit of six weeks to get everyone up to the recommended 10 Mbps.
