Get a grip, Mrs May
THE in-fighting in Theresa May’s Cabinet over Brexit is hardly surprising since it is largely of her own making, having appointed less than one-third of Leavers.
If this was a deliberate strategy on her part, it has backfired.
Pressing for some sort of ‘customs partnership’ means membership of the customs union in all but name.
On her appointment as Prime Minister, Mrs May insisted she would abide by the will of the people in the referendum. But that is hardly convincing when she is surrounded by pro-EU ministers. A soft Brexit is not what we voted for.
DAVID MORGAN, Shrewbury, Shropshire. ENOUGH of EU bullying, obfuscation, threats and stalling.
The Brexit referendum was won on the basis that we leave the single market, take control of our borders, stop contributions to Brussels, take back jurisdiction of our laws and direct our own agricultural and fisheries policies.
A watered-down Brexit will sell out the country and there will be payback by voters at the next election.
The EU is facing a meltdown, so what a great time to remind it of what it risks losing economically.
The Government needs to play hardball — it’s what we voted for.
RHOD TIBBLES, Norwich. WHY all the fuss about the Chequers meeting with Theresa May’s full Cabinet to discuss an EU customs deal? Whatever is proposed, the EU will dismiss it out of hand. BRIAN MASON, Swadlincote, Derbys.
