No age concerns

-

THE letter by Brenda Butler about her family’s lost inheritance struck a chord with me.

Some of my relatives have the right idea. In their 50s, they have sold their homes to rent and are having a great time travelling the world, enjoying meals out, spa days and golfing trips. When the money is gone and they can’t afford the rent, they’ll be well into old age and will probably be given housing benefit. Should their health fail, they’ll get their care paid for, too.

Meanwhile, those of us who remain in our own homes in the hope of passing on some of the fruits of our hard work to our children will be forced to cover our own healthcare costs and won’t have enjoyed all the pleasures of a nomoney-spared retirement.

What message does this give to the younger generation?

Name supplied, Chalfont St Peter, Bucks.
