Khan plays to the mob

WHAT a pathetic, jumped up local politician is the Mayor of London Sadiq Khan. Not content with opposing Donald Trump’s visit to London, which begins on Friday, he has now approved a ridiculous stunt designed to humiliate the President of our closest and most powerful ally.

By allowing a gang of Momentum diehards, professional protesters and union activists to fly a giant six metre long inflatable blimp depicting the President as a baby over Parliament, he demeans not just London but the entire country.

Not for a minute will this childish posturing distract from Mr Khan’s failure to deal with the violent moped gangs, knife crime epidemic and traffic chaos gripping the capital. The Mail stands by our many great reservations about Mr Trump, a narcissistic and volatile individual. But the invitation is a hand of friendship to a great nation whose people fought and died beside us in two world wars, not an endorsement of the President’s policies.

Consider the contrast with France, where President Macron held his nose and rolled out the red carpet on Bastille Day, stealing a march on the UK.

How Paris will delight if Mr Trump is humiliated in Britain, with French financiers and businessmen set to benefit from deals that might otherwise have gone to the City of London. Mr Khan should think about that when he dances to the tune of the Leftist mob.
