Now IVF babies will look like mum

-

WOMEN trying for a baby using donated eggs will soon be able to ensure their child looks like them.

An IVF clinic in Spain is to use a computer program to match the would-be mother with an egg donor who looks like her.

The woman trying for a baby takes a selfie and a computer algorithm uses the photograph to make 100 measurements of her face such as the length of her nose, the size of lips and the distance between her eyes. It then scours its memory banks to find the face of an egg donor she most resembles.

It is thought to be the first time that a computer program will have a hand in selecting how a baby will look when it is born.

Alberto Lale, of the Ovobank clinic, which is based in Marbella and Malaga, said: ‘We’ve had a huge amount of interest from patients.’

Mr Lale, who said he expected the cost of the service, when finalised, to be around £90, was speaking at the annual meeting of the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology in Barcelona
