Productivity dented

PRODUCTIVITY slipped 0.4pc in the first quarter as bad weather weighed on economic growth.

The number of people in work rose but the economy expanded at a slower pace as the Beast from the East snowstorms hit shopping and construction.

It follows a 0.9pc rise in productivity in the last quarter of 2017, which fuelled hopes of an economic boost and a recovery after years of sluggish work output.
