Something soggy at the bottom of the royal sweetie bucket, Mary?

- By Inderdeep Bains

AS the nation’s queen of baking, there is not much that Mary Berry has not tried.

So whatever was in the Wimbledon’s royal box sweet bucket yesterday must have been truly mind-boggling – or perhaps she was less than impressed by the goodies on offer.

The former Great British Bake Off star, 83, was pictured looking somewhat aghast as sat in the royal box at Centre Court yesterday.

As well as enjoying a lavish lunch and afternoon tea, royal box guests are discreetly passed a leather-bound bucket containing an assortment of confectionery during play. But while Miss Berry was distracted by the sweets on offer, fellow royal box spectator Michelle Dockery was absorbed in the drama on court.

The Downton Abbey star was gripped by the tough three-set match between Serena Williams and Italian Camila Giorgi, at one point tensely clenching her fists.

The actress, 36, looked elegant in a crisp white shirt and chic cat- eye sunglasses. Another person watching the action in SW19 yesterday – though perhaps a little wistfully – was Andy Murray.

The British tennis ace made his debut as a BBC sports pundit after pulling out of the championships because of injury.

The two-time champion, 31, revealed he did not watch his brother’s dramatic late-night mixed doubles match on Monday, and went to bed instead, as he feels that watching could jinx the match.

But he added the TV stays firmly on for one particular programme – ITV2’s Love Island.
