Silver listeners

-

READER Zoe Bartlett was spot on about the problems dogging the revamped simon Mayo show with Jo Whiley (Letters).

Until recently, Radio 2 has always been a pleasure to listen to. it was gentle, humorous entertainment for those of us who do not wish to listen to the frenetic Radio 1.

Replacing our beloved terry Wogan with the rather loud chris Evans was the start of the rot. Radio 2 has become Radio 1 Plus.

sadly, it has left the over- 55s floundering without an early morning radio programme with which they can identify.

i certainly don’t want to be woken up with rock music or brash, selfopinionated Mr Evans, who gabbles over the songs. Liza tarbuck would be a fantastic replacement.

thank goodness for the 9.30am show hosted by ken Bruce, a successful format that has so far remained untouched by controller Lewis carnie.

the nation’s treasure, tony Blackburn, who has always been the staunchest supporter of BBC radio, has been relegated to the ridiculous

time- slots of 6am on Saturdays and 2am on Sundays.

The over-55s have just as much right to be entertained as the younger generation.

Why not restore Radio 2 to its former glory and also give us a silver entertainment TV channel devoid of ghastly reality TV and soaps?
