Follow-up

THE item by Bob hunt about his friend crying out during a Will hay film (Peterborough) reminded me of why my sister would never go to the cinema with Grandma. apparently, in the twenties, Grandma took her to see a cowboy silent movie — when the hero wore a white hat and the villain a black one. in one scene, the villain was hiding behind a door waiting for the hero to enter. My Grandma shouted out: ‘he’s behind the door! he’s behind the door!’ the hero entered and was immediately knocked out by the villain, whereupon Grandma shouted out: ‘serves you right, you b****r, i told you he was behind the door!’ the audience dissolved into loud laughter — to the embarrassment of my then six-year-old sister.
