Cheers to the sunshine
SUN and sports were reasons for cheer at Young’s.
Chairman Stephen Goodyear revealed that in the first 13 weeks of the financial year, sales in the group’s managed pubs were up 8.8pc in total, or 5.3pc on a like-for-like basis.
The growth at the firm came as a welcome relief, since a like-for-like sales rise of 8.6pc last year was aided by the hottest June in 40 years. Goodyear said: ‘We are, once more, benefiting from a long period of very warm weather.’
However, there were some clouds on the horizon.
Goodyear jibed at politicians that ‘the continued uncertainty surrounding Britain’s future trading relationship with Europe is unhelpful for businesses’.
