Q: What inspired you to make a career in ocean cruising?

come Irom a big Iamily oI seven children and one oI my elder brothers worNed on ships in radio electronic­s t was the mid s and he d come home on leave suntanned Irom top to toe with all the latest gadgets Irom all over the world and phenomenal stories to tell was entranced 6o, at applied Ior a cadetship with the 3eninsula and 2riental 6team 1avigation ompany 2n the Iour year course my first period at sea was on a ship transporti­ng liquefied natural gas between lasNa and -apan in rough seas 7owards the end oI my cadetship in , having worNed on ships in every division oI the company, joined my first ever passenger ship, the anberra, and Nnew very quicNly that this was Iar more to my liNing 7he cargo was certainly more e citing than any d encountere­d beIore

Q: What do you enjoy most about your job?

7he diversity love it that ve got to a senior position but am still very hands on get to manoeuvre the ship and enjoy coaching others to drive the ship, too nd enjoy interactin­g with the guests very much 2n 6aga ships they tend to be well travelled with a wealth oI liIe e periences 6o meet very interestin­g people and love Iascinatin­g conversati­ons over dinner
