Boy, 6, killed by fall from window left open in heat

- By Andy Dolan

A BOY of six has died after falling from a window of a house during the heatwave.

William Coy is understood to have plunged three storeys from a bedroom window at a terraced home his family had only recently moved into.

The incident happened in Lincoln on Tuesday. Paramedics who were called to the scene found the child unconscious and not breathing.

William was taken to Nottingham’s Queen’s Medical Centre but police yesterday announced the Year One pupil had died.

His headteacher at Monks Abbey Primary School in the city, Vicky Johnson, yesterday wrote to parents to confirm the ‘sudden death’, saying William had died in a ‘tragic accident’. It is thought the child had an older sister at the school. A crowdfunding page was set up yesterday by a former neighbour, Amy Cash de Flores, who described William, pictured, as a ‘wonderful, loving, happy’ boy.

Robyn Hardesty, a friend of William’s parents, said in an online tribute: ‘William was a happy cheeky little soul and I will never forget the little lad who always lit up a room.’

One neighbour described the death as ‘every parent’s worst nightmare’.

Lincolnshire Police yesterday said the incident was being treated as an accident. Officers were supporting his parents, named locally as Richard and Kate, both 33.

Temperatures in the city peaked at 26.6C on Tuesday. Local residents said many windows were open on the street where William lived, close to the city’s arboretum, because of the hot weather.
