Boris in talks with Trump’s ex-strategist

BORIS Johnson held secret talks with former Donald Trump strategist Steve Bannon after his resignation, it was claimed yesterday.

The former foreign secretary spoke to the ex-White House aide when he visited London, although it is not thought they met face-to-face.

‘I’m sure they weren’t discussing the cricket scores’, a source told the BuzzFeed news website.

A spokesman for Mr Johnson declined to comment.

The Uxbridge MP resigned earlier this month, days after signing up to the Prime Minister’s plans on Britain’s future relationship with the EU at a Chequers meeting.

He wrote that Theresa May’s blueprint would leave the UK in ‘vassalage, satrapy, colony status’ to the EU. ‘It can’t and won’t work. Chuck Chequers,’ he added.

Mr Bannon, who is reportedly planning to set up an office in Brussels to bring Donald Trump’s brand of right-wing populism to Europe, praised Mr Johnson during interviews in the UK last week.
