‘A heart of gold’... girl of 14 whose life was cut short

-

THE grieving parents of a ‘bubbly ’ schoolgirl who died after taking drugs said her death will ‘leave a gaping hole in everyone’s lives’.

Bethany Devlin-McCrone, 14, collapsed in the early hours of Wednesday in a house in the upmarket village of Greasby, in the Wirral, and was pronounced dead at the scene. Two teenagers have been arrested in connection with her death, which is the latest in a string of drug tragedies involving teenagers in recent months.

Last night her parents, Angela, 32, and Sean, 31, issued a tribute to their daughter. They said: ‘We are heartbroken to have lost our princess Bethany at such a young age, under such tragic circumstances. Her death will leave a gaping hole in everyone’s lives.

‘Bethany loved life, and when she entered a room you knew about it. She was so bubbly and cheeky, but extremely loving and caring too, and had a heart of gold.’

They added that Bethany’s three younger brothers, twins Charlie and Zac, five, and Joshua, 13 months, will ‘miss her terribly’.

Merseyside Police arrested a 14year-old boy on suspicion of supplying or offering to supply an unspecified controlled drug.

An 18-year-old was also arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply controlled drugs.

It is unclear exactly what drug the schoolgirl had taken, and a post-mortem examination is due to be held.

Detective Inspector Paul Parry said last night: ‘Children take drugs through peer pressure, and parents need to reassure their children it is the right thing to say no, as we wouldn’t want another family to go through what this young girl’s family are going through.’
