FESTIVAL OF MUSIC
BBC Proms 2018, 7.30pm, 11pm, BBC4
LIVE from the Royal Albert Hall, Prom 17 is an English elegy, with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales — conducted by Martyn Brabbins, and accompanied by the American violinist Tai Murray — performing music by Holst, Parry and Vaughan Williams. Later, there’s a recording of Monday’s late-night Prom paying tribute to the trailblazing women of the BBC Radiophonic Workshop. It includes the music of Delia Derbyshire — who gave the Doctor Who theme its incredible sound — and the centrepiece is a performance of Still Point, by Daphne Oram.
