Jose: Title heat’s on Klopp after Kop spending spree

JOSE MOURINHO claims Jurgen Klopp is under pressure to win the title at Liverpool after spending £250million on signings this year. Mourinho also described Klopp’s U-turn on big transfersf­er deals as ‘funny’ ahead of Manchester United’s d’s clash with their rivals in Michigan tomorrow night. When United signed Paul Pogba for £89m, Klopp said he would rather quit football than pay that amount. Now, after Liverpool have ve broken the world record for a defender and keeper by signing Virgil van Dijk for £75m and Alisson for £67m, Mourinho said: ‘I’m happy for them. I’m also happy to smile and to see that you can change your opinion. It’s funny. But that’s OK. ‘This season, finally you demand that they win. With investment­s they’re making last season, that they make now, a team that was a finalist in the Champions League are a big candidate.’ Meanwhile, after United beat AC Milan 9-8 on penalties in LA yesterday, Mourinho confirmed it was Anthony Martial’s decision to leave the club’s US tour. Martial’satasgirgi­rlfriend Melanie Da Cruz gave birth to a son, Swan, yesterday. ‘I IfM Martial found out was that going when he told me three days ago,’ said Mourinho. ‘When a man is going g to be a father f and decides it’s it’ important for him to go, no one has the rright to stop him.’ Mourinho Mourin has full-back issues. Antonio Valencia has flown home with a torn calf and will miss the start of the season. New signing Diogo Dalot is out until September with a knee injury and Matteo Darmian is set to return to Italy. With the League opener against Leicester on August 10, Mourinho said: ‘Ashley Young might play right back, but he is on holiday.’
