I’m the top dog round these parts, Captain Poldark!
HE has said he hates the dog that plays Garrick in Poldark. But it seems Aidan Turner feels differently when it comes to his American girlfriend’s pet.
The actor was pictured smiling and laughing as he walked along cradling Caitlin Fitz-Gerald’s dog in his arms. At one point Turner, 35, playfully lifted the animal above his head as the couple enjoyed a stroll in the sunshine last week.
Turner, normally seen in period costume for his role as Ross Poldark in the BBC1 drama, was dressed down in a pair of green and blue shorts and a white T-shirt.
Miss Fitz-Gerald, also 35, whose late grandfather Desmond Fitz-Gerald was deputy director of the CIA during the Kennedy administration, was wearing ripped denim shorts, a blue shirt and sandals.
The couple have been dating since February and are thought to have fallen in love while filming fantasy movie The Man Who Killed Hitler And Then The Bigfoot.
Turner has previously said he doesn’t like Garrick the dog, which has appeared in Poldark since its first season in 2015.
Speaking about Barley, which plays Garrick, he told Heat magazine: ‘I hate that dog. I’ve never disliked an animal in my life, but I just don’t like that dog. You can’t pet him – he just bites you. He’s looking for a treat the whole time. Zero love from me.’
The fourth series of Poldark ended last night with Ross heartbroken by the death of his childhood sweet- heart Elizabeth Warleggan (Heida Reed). She died after the birth of her second child having taken an elixir to induce an early birth.
She produced a healthy baby daughter but was found collapsed and in pain the next day and died holding the hand of her husband George (Jack Farthing).
In an emotional scene, a distraught Poldark was then shown kissing Elizabeth on her bed soon after she had passed away.
But the tragedy brought Poldark and his wife Demelza ( Eleanor Tomlinson) closer together, with her saying: ‘Elizabeth was your first love’, and him replying: ‘But not my last. I made that choice long ago’ before they shared a kiss.
