Sammut helps London shock Widnes

-

JARROD SAMMUT’S 79th-minute drop goal helped London Broncos to a shock 21-20 win over Super League side Widnes in the Qualifiers last night. Second-tier London trailed for most of the match, after Olly Asthall-Bott’s first-half try gave Widnes a narrow lead. Mark Ioane hit back for London, but his score was cancelled out by a Krisnan Inu penalty and a Chris Dean try. Daniel Harrison’s effort dragged the Broncos back into contention before Kieran Dixon (right) ran 70 metres for London to take the lead for the first time with just 10 minutes remaining. Inu then barged his way over to draw the two sides level temporarily before Sammut slotted the drop goal to seal a surprise victory.
