- By SIMON JONES

DANNY INGS will look to kickstart his career at hometown club

SOUTHAMPTON after signing on an initial loan from Liverpool with an obligation to buy for £18million. The permanent deal, on a four-year contract, will kick in on July 1, 2019 with a further £2m due if Ings plays a set number of games. Liverpool are also due 20 per cent of any sell-on fee. ‘It is a very strange feeling saying goodbye to Danny,’ said Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp. ‘The biggest emotion is how much we’ll miss him.’

NEWCASTLE manager Rafa Benitez ended another window of frustration as he saw deals for Liverpool’s Ragnar Klavan and Barcelona’s Marlon Santos fall through, but did secure Federico Fernandez for £6m from Swansea City. ‘I know Federico well from our time at Napoli and it was an easy decision to bring him here,’ said Benitez.

LEICESTER not only kept Harry Maguire but added two centre backs with £13m Filip Benkovic joining from Dinamo Zagreb and Caglar Soyuncu from Freiburg for £19m. Striker Islam Slimani is off to Fenerbahce on loan.

WOLVES started the day with a snub from Oleksandr Zinchenko as the Manchester City midfielder rejected a £16m move to Molineux. However, that did not deter Leander Dendoncker from joining on an initial loan from Anderlecht.

CRYSTAL PALACE kept Wilfried Zaha and signed Jordan Ayew on loan from Swansea City. ‘I’m very happy with our business,’ mused birthday boy Roy Hodgson, the Palace manager.

WEST HAM concluded one of the best transfer windows in the club’s history by signing Arsenal striker Lucas Perez for a knockdown £5m and bringing in Colombia midfielder Carlos Sanchez on loan from Fiorentina. Talented midfielder Domingos Quina, 18, left West Ham, though, to sign for

WATFORD. The Vicarage Road club also attempted to sign Jake Livermore but West Brom blocked the move.
